. they keep coming to the same conclusion. there is about 6% of u.s. adolescents that are clinically depressed. that's not just sad. it's in a deep state that need help of one type or another. whether it's counseling or drugs or whatever. they need some help. they're relatively easy to identify. and you can do it in a simple screening process. for very little money. we could have every kid when you get your high school physical, you also have to get checked out, or periodically before graduation. because the thing is, most depressives, kids want to -- they want help. and they will tell adults. usually the two adults they will not tell are their mom and their dad. and that's actually part of the screening protocol is that parents can't be in the room, because they will usually tell a teacher or a counselor or a family doctor. they will tell an adult, but they hide it from their parents because they're embarrassed, ashamed, all sorts of different reasons. so the parents are often blind to it because the child is sort of blocking their view. so parents have difficulty. but yeah, we can do so much

as a joint u.s. afghan special team went in to save the life of dr. dilip joseph, an american doctor who was kidnapped two days before with two members of his afghan staff. the staff was released earlier when a small ransom was made but the taliban was asking for $100,000 for dr. joseph's release. general john allen felt that his life was in imminent danger and then called for the rescue mission as special operations team lured the taliban in, saying they would pay the ransom. the taliban came. instead, they were met by this team who killed at least six taliban insurgents. unfortunately, this u.s. navy s.e.a.l. also lost his life. his identity has not yet been released but he is being labeled a hero by the top brass in washington, including secretary of defense leon panetta and president barack obama who in a statement said he gave his life for his fellow americans and he and his teammates remind us once more of the selfless service that allows our nation to stay strong, safe and free. the american navy s.e.a.l. sacrifice has not been lost on dr. joseph's family who, in a statement relea

in u.s. military operations? guest: special operations forces have played an increasing role over the last decade, since they are designed to confront a regular presence of a wide variety, not only terrorism but insurgency, countering weapons of mass destruction and so forth, so they have a very wide mission. they have also grown greatly in the last decade. they are partly a number of about 33,000 uniformed badged special operations forces and they come from the navy, marines, army, air force. host: in terms of the budget, over the last decade, it was to $0.5 billion in 2001 during now it is in excess of $10.5 billion today. guest: that's right. the budget has almost quintupled. a great deal of that has also gone to the high end -- both the expansion and personnel, because people do cost money, the training and salaries for them, but also to a lot of this has gone to the high end special mission units and equipping them with state-of- the-art communications, stealth helicopters, a number of state of the art commands interest, also, the special operations command down in tampa, bef
